THE PURPOSE OF THIS SITE
Why is there a site here anyways?
This site is a personal site, and the name is based on my surname. It is here as a learning tool for me. A method for me to understand (X)HTML, CSS, Java and other tools used to get a website up and running. We are also lucky to use the domain for unique e-mail addresses. Feel free to look around. If you would like to contact us, fill out the form on the contact us page. We would love to hear from you.
THE MEANING OF DOUGHTY
In the Dictionary...
pronounced (dou'te)
adj.: resolute and without fear; able; strong; valiant; redoubtable; syn: fearless, hardy; as, a doughty hero.
adj.: dough-ti-er, dough-ti-est: marked by stouthearted courage; brave.
In Literature...
"Sir Thomas wex [grew] a doughty swain." (Chaucer)
"Doughty families, hugging old musty quarrels to their hearts,
buffet each other from generation to generation." (Motley)
EARLY IN HISTORY
When googling "Doughty History", I found this site that states -
"The name Doughty has a history dating as far back as the Anglo-Saxon tribes of Britain.... First found in Suffolk where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D."
THE DOUGHTY COAT OF ARMS
Old Origins...
The Doughty Coat of Arms is very old. It is a silver sheild with two black bars surrounded by three stars; some say that a simple Coat of Arms can show how long ago it was created (a simpler coat is older, where a new coat is more complex and detailed). The Doughty Crest is a hand holding a star.

Here is a quote from there site -
"Our surname has been found from the middle ages to the present in all spellings and form. Some claim Irish ancestry, while others are certain that the name originated in England. The truth probably lies in both locations, but finding paper documentation to prove these theories is easier said than done. We now have the ability and resources to start this quest, and find our ancestors in doing so."
Jude's Family and Local History
I am not sure if there is any family connections here. The area seems to be right for the origins of my family line.
If you have or know of any more Doughty information or where I can get resources, I would love to know. Please use the Contact page to e-mail us.
